SPOILER ALERT: Major spoilers for "season 3 of 13 Reasons" Why below!

"Season 3 of 13 Reasons Why" may have killed off a character , but the show also added a new character of kids at Liberty High. Ani Achola, played by Grace Saif, is the school's new transfer student. But unlike the other kids, Ani doesn't hate Bryce. Her mother is  nurse for Bryce's grandfather, so we learn that the two got pretty close (very close) before he was murdered. A lot of the details we learn in season 3 come through the eyes of Ani, the show's new narrator now that Hannah's gone.

The identity of the person's she's talking to remains a secret for most of season 3. All we know is that she's been investigating recent events, including Bryce Walker's death. We also know that she's in some sort of gray interrogation room, which should have given a hint that Ani is actually talking to Deputy Standall, who also happens to be Alex Standall's father.

Deputy Standall is in charge of figuring out what exactly happened to Bryce. The deputy wants to question Ani because it's revealed that she was close to Bryce, even living in his house due to her mom's job as his grandfather's nurse.

For most of season 3, Ani is collecting information from all the students, some of it which she spills to Deputy Standall. In the show, we learn that Ani already figured out who really killed Bryce, even figuring out that Jessica Davis was actually there the night that Bryce died.

Ani doesn't tell Deputy Standall what she's learned. The deputy already has a feeling that his son Alex may have had something to do with Bryce's murder, but as his father he wants to protect him. Ani persuades Deputy Standall that the person he should actually be looking at as a suspect is Monty, being that Monty supposedly didn't have an alibi (though, it's revealed he did.) The deputy knows that it wasn't Alex, but he goes with the story anyways in order to keep Alex and Jessica in the clear.
